A soothing blend of roots and leaves to comfort the throat.
A soothing blend of leaves and roots to comfort the throat.
According to Ayurveda I am a high vata constitution which is considered dry and cold. This can be a breeding ground for a sore throat on a cold night. I designed this tea to soothe myself and throughout the process discovered how helpful this combination can be for any throat that’s tired- whether that be from yelling all day, singers rehearsing for a gig, all the rampant talkers in this world as well as those suffering a winter cold.
Marshmallow is at the core of this blend for its impressive mucilage. This property coats the throat, providing a silky relief for irritation. Native to the marshes of Europe it is moistening, soothing and anti inflammatory with a mild expectorant action.
The sweet root of the licorice plant holds similar qualities to the flowering mallow, soothing a sore dry throat with its own mucilage, anti inflammatory and expectorant power as well as helping reduce fever.
The wise sage plant “possesses virtues almost too numerous to comprehend” declares Matthew Wood. Its botanical name salvia is derived from the latin salvare meaning ‘save’. For centuries the potent healing powers in this warming, oily herb have been used for its expert skill at soothing sore, dry and ticklish coughs, fevers and voice loss.
Thymos found in both sage and thyme, is derived from the Greek word for ‘spiritedness’ indicating its action on the breath in our bodies. An excellent respiratory healer, its warming profile purges the blood and breath of infection and toxins releasing congestion from deep within the body.
Coltsfoot relieves and expels stagnant mucus and infection from the respiratory tract, while soothing scar tissue in the lungs. It is considered one of the great respiratory healers, taken as a tea, tincture or smoked as an alternative to tobacco for its expectorant mastery. Pharmacies of Paris used a symbol of the coltsfoot flower above their doors to honour its remarkable healing powers. Add honey for taste and extra soothing indulgence.
